Our Mission
Our goal is to connect local playwrights with writers, actors, directors, teachers, and community through a series of collaborative programs, workshops, classes, and live performances. We strive to offer both new and experienced playwrights the time, tools, and support to develop new and exciting plays in supportive, inclusive settings. Our playwrights will have the opportunity to grow and learn their craft. One of our core principles is to support and empower the artistic growth and careers of local playwrights. We will offer playwrights the opportunity to grow as playwrights and to work toward advancing their careers. We will connect them with actors and directors who will work collaboratively with them to bring their plays to life. We will also connect our writers and actors with other performance-based theatrical programs both on-line, and in the Tri-State area. Â

At Brooklyn Playwrights Connect, we clearly understand the importance of the actor in our process. We feel the need to connect our playwrights with the most talented actors available. Because of this, we will offer the same support to actors. We are very serious when it comes to supporting actors and offering the actors as many opportunities to "work" as possible. Through our staged reading/performance series, our live theatrical performances and festivals, and our workshops, actors will find they will have ample opportunity to work and develop their skills. They will also have the opportunity to establish relationships with playwrights and directors. This will create future opportunities to work. At BPC, it is always about making connections that will support the artist in terms of gaining valuable experience and creating opportunities to work.

A key part of the Brooklyn Playwrights Connect mission is to connect our artists with our thriving community. We will do this through a series of live performances, readings, and festivals that will feature the work of local playwrights. The collaboration between our playwrights and our actors will, quite often, speak to the issues and tell the stories reflected in our community. We will also be connecting with local businesses and organizations. We will also offer opportunities to new local playwrights and actors in the form of classes, workshops, including scholarship opportunities. In short, Brooklyn Playwrights Connect will collectively strive to bridge artists with community to form a bond based on support, inclusivity, and sharing.
